Axe throwing venue plans to open in Summerville’s downtown

Downtown Summerville is known for its walkable streets, a variety of small businesses, and the country’s largest jar of sweet tea. Soon, axe throwing could be coming to the neighborhood as well.

A business called The Axe Joint is planning to open across from Hutchinson Square. The Axe Joint is seeking a license from the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) in order to allow for the “sale and on premises consumption of beer and wine” at 120 South Main Street, according to a public notice. The SCDOR is currently accepting public input in writing.

This will be one of several axe throwing businesses to recently come to the Lowcountry. There are currently local axe throwing venues in North Charleston and on James Island.

The Axe Joint confirmed the 120 South Main Street location on social media. The space was previously occupied by Tip Tap Toe Dance Studio, which is now located on Orangeburg Road.
