The city of Hanahan celebrates 50 years, sweet tea fest happening as Fall begins

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - All around town, places like Downtown Summerville, Hanahan in Goose Creek, and Folly Beach are celebrating their festivals and anniversaries in a special way and they want you to come out and join in on their upcoming events.

Celebrate the birthplace of Sweet Tea at this year’s Summerville Sweet Tea Festival. The celebration is happening in Historic Downtown Summerville tomorrow from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will have a street fair with a variety of food trucks. There will of course be sweet tea and you can help select the Tea of the Year by sampling and voting for your favorite.

It’s time for some celebrations at some of your favorite places.

From now through Oct. 1, Folly is inviting everyone to join in the celebration with fun events to showcase Folly Beach’s vibrant history. Center Street will flood with classic cars to kick off the celebration on Saturday and you can find upcoming events on our website.

The city of Hanahan is also celebrating 50 years! Hanahan began its history in 1973 and those who live there say it’s known for its small-town feel.

This weekend, the city is commemorating this anniversary with a Birthday bash tomorrow from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and you can head to Hanahan Amphitheater on Mabeline Road to experience all the fun.

It’s time for those kiddos to get ready to run. The Kids Cooper River Bridge Run is here, and the family festival kicks off this weekend!

The family festival has everything from face painting to a climbing wall, free hot dogs and more. The race is coming this Sunday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. The run is free to all participants, but all kids must be registered by an adult and have a waiver signed to receive their own race bib.
